Guest Lecturers and After Show Lounge for Revivals

"Every performance a Premiere!" This was the credo of the founder of the Komische Oper, Walter Felsenstein. Consequently, we too celebrate the revival of a production just like a premiere, with guest lecturers from renowned experts relating to the theme of the show 45 minutes before the curtain goes up, and in the After Show Lounge following the performance, as a revival party.
In the Upper Foyer 30 minutes before the start of each performance a short introduction is provided, with background information about the work and the author, along with notes about the staging, to help audiences appreciate what is to come.
Before symphony concerts and performances by the Berlin State Ballet in-depth introductions into the evening's works are also provided; these begin 45 minutes before the concert and are also held in the Upper Foyer.

(No introductions are offered before premieres, special events or performances of the children's repertoire).
Two weeks before each premiere (please note that there are some exceptions) the dramaturg responsible for the show stages a free Introductory Matinée in the Upper Foyer of the Komische Oper Berlin at lunchtime. This provides an opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the work and the staging in advance. The director, conductor, set designer and costume designer explain the background to the production, to heighten the audience’s enjoyment.

Anybody who wants sustenance of a more physical nature can enjoy an Opera Brunch before (and after) the matinee on the small side of the foyer. From 10 o'clock the opera gastronomy service serves a nutritious brunch in this inviting atmosphere.

(Please note that only the introductory matinee is free of charge).
In association with the Komische Oper Berlin gastronomy service, we are able to present a culinary operatic delight for selected performances: as a stimulating aperitif a thrilling look behind the scenes with an expert guide (beginning each day at 16:00) followed by a three course meal at banquet tables in the special atmosphere of the Opera Casino, before the curtain rises on the performance itself. Tickets for the Opera and Dinner events can be purchased from €78 in the price groups I to IV, depending on availability.

Since capacity is limited, reservations are necessary at least seven days before the performance, by telephone at (030) 47 99 74 00 or from the opera ticket office at Unter den Linden 41. And since individuality is extremely important for us – not only onstage – you can choose between meat, fish and vegetarian options for the main courses.
She was the biggest star of the Metropol Theatre (the forerunner of the Komische Oper) and the most famous operetta diva of her day: Fritzi Massary! From 1904 the Austrian Jewish singer dominated the world of operetta in Berlin for almost 30 years, until her career came to an abrupt end when she was forced to flee the Nazis.
Now Fritzi Massary is back in Behrenstrasse: in her honour a very special feature of the Komische Oper has been developed – the Fritzi Massary Lounge. With its stylish, sophisticated atmosphere it provides the ideal space for individual receptions. Host your own events in the Komische Oper Berlin and treat your guests to a very personal opera experience, including culinary delights – from private dining to relaxed business functions, as well as client and staff get-togethers!

Conversation after the Performance

Once a month, after a performance, audiences have the opportunity to meet with the people involved in the production to discuss what they have just experienced. Everybody is welcome to ask questions, express admiration or convey criticism. The dates of these events are published in the programme schedule.
Your Opinion Counts!

The Dramaturgy Department of the Komische Oper Berlin is at your disposal for questions about the productions, ideas, praise and criticism. Head Dramaturg Ulrich Lenz and dramaturgs Johanna Wall and Pavel B. Jiracek can be reached by phone or email at:

Don Juan, the epitome of the seducer, inspired Mozart to one of his most influential operas. Frivolous, witty and profound all at once. The perfect opportunity for Herbert Fritsch, the master of theatrical folly, whose highly musical style of staging is tailor-made for this "light-hearted spectacle" about fatal passions.
A tenor, a soprano and three musicians travel around Europe on the Gastarbeiterroute –the road people who worked in Germany or Austria took to travel to their counties of origin during holidays. Berlin – Munich – Vienna – Belgrad – Sofia – Istanbul
