Julia Giebel

The soprano Julia Giebel was born in Cologne and studied singing under Barbara Schlick at the Wuppertal University of Music, as well as at the Berlin University of the Arts under Julie Kaufmann, where she passed her diploma studies in scenic art with distinction. She augmented her studies with master-classes given by Klesie Kelly-Moog, Kristina Laki, Wolfram Rieger, Irwin Gage, Calixto Bieito, and Philippe Gaulier. She won 2nd prize at the Euriade Vocaal Concours Kerkrade, and a scholarship at the Klang-Kunst-Bühne, part of the Berlin University of the Arts. During the 2007/08 season, she was a member of the international opera studio at the Cologne Opera, and there sang such roles as Barbarina and Fire/Princess/Nightingale in The Child and the Spells. From 2008 until 2009 she was part of the ensemble at the Theater Dortmund, and there could be seen in such roles as Ännchen in »The Marksman« and Zerlina in »Don Giovanni«. Julia Giebel became a member of the Komische Oper Berlin ensemble in 2009, and has sung in roles including Musette in »La Bohème«, Klärchen in »The White Horse Inn«, Blonde, Adele, Zerlina, and the First Elf in »Rusalka«.

Once again this season at the Komische Oper Berlin concludes with a week-long festival. Review the new productions of the season once again on seven consecutive days.
