Following the extraordinary success of Barrie Kosky’s 2003 production, Ligeti’s mad “Dance of Death”, a masterpiece of 20th century opera, is back in the schedule of the Komische Oper Berlin after ten years – with a promising new cast. Ligeti’s jet-black piece of apocalyptic grotesquery leads us to the fictional Breughelland, whose inhabitants are largely unimpressed by the appearance of the “great macabre one”, Death, and who live to the full the life of the senses.
